One of the most challenging aspects of following Jesus is sharing our faith with others.
There are many reasons for this. One is that we’ve all seen unfortunate examples of faith-sharing that is offensive and counter-productive. Another is that we feel inadequate to the task; after all, what should we say? And what if someone asks us a question we cannot answer? Another reason for our timidity is the society in which we live has branded most faith-sharing efforts as showing a judgmental narrow-mindedness and bigotry that is an affront to amiability and social cohesion. Those are just a few reasons for our reluctance to share our faith but of course there are many more.
Here are two opportunities that may encourage us in this regard:
First, this Sunday we kick off our FAITH PROMISE MISSIONS CONFERENCE. For the next four weeks we will be celebrating our efforts to reach out to our community and our world in the name of Jesus. This will be a time of great encouragement for us to do our part in sharing the good news about Jesus. Please plan to participate in these Sunday events.
Secondly, on Saturday, March 21, Crosswalk will be participating in a Growing Healthy Churches (GHC) event called GO101 (meaning, GO along the corridor of Freeway 101 and share your faith) at our sister church in Santa Clara. GHC is a consortium of like-minded churches that work together for evangelism, mission, and church planting. Several South Bay pastors will be sharing seminars, including yours truly, and the plenary sessions will be led by GHC Director of Recruitment and Development, Gilbert Foster, and the GHC Executive Pastor, Tim Brown. I call your attention to this because Tim has preached at Crosswalk a couple times in the past few years, and Gilbert is our Church Consultant who is helping Crosswalk in our time of transition and search for a new Senior Pastor.
The event begins at 8:30 am and ends at 3:30 pm. However, you don’t need to stay for the entire program. But I do encourage you to spend some time with us and be encouraged in this important part of our faith. Perhaps you could attend Gilbert’s session in the morning and one of the seminars.
Registration for this event is FREE. There is an opportunity to purchase lunch online, if you wish. Our sister church is First Baptist of Santa Clara, and the easiest way to register is at their website.
I hope to see many of you there!! OPPORTUNITY IS KNOCKING! You will be encouraged to shine with the light of the Lord in your daily life!
P.S. We have all been inundated with steps to protect ourselves from the latest coronavirus, COVID 19. You know the steps: wash hands regularly, wipe down surfaces, cough or sneeze into your elbow, and if you feel sick please stay at home. At Crosswalk and Sunnyvale Christian School, we are doing our part to ensure a safe and clean environment. We are not immune from the diseases of this broken world, so I encourage you to participate hygienically with us in these efforts and pray against the spread of this disease.
This Sunday at Crosswalk! We are kicking off our FAITH PROMISE MISSIONS MONTH with a message from Matthew 28:16-20. This is the Lord's Great Commission to his church. It is a fairly well-known passage, but a close reading reveals some powerful and practical lessons for us. You are invited to a time of great encouragement and great challenge!
Please don't forget to set your clocks ahead one hour before going to bed Saturday night, as this Sunday is DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME!
