Dear Crosswalkers,
This will be a great Sunday at Crosswalk!
First, we are opening our new Children’s Ministry Center. This means children will start in the Center and have their own time of worship with their peers. Then they will break for their classes within the Center. It is a safe and secure environment! Please drop your kids off at the Center before coming to the sanctuary. The Center will be open 15 minutes before each service to check your kids into the program. Each child will receive a name tag, and parents will receive a claim label to use when you pick them up. PLEASE make every effort to get your child (and yourself!!) to church on time. This will ensure a fuller experience for both you and your child! After our second service the church playground will be open for those who want to hang out and visit while their kids play. Many thanks to our Pastor to Children and their Families, Peggy Graves, who has been working tirelessly to get the Children’s Ministry Center ready.
Secondly, our message from Proverbs will focus on “Healing Relationships.” This is of utmost importance in our lives. Last week we looked at healing for the crushed human spirit, and the next logical step is to direct our attention to the all-important relationships in our lives. I promise this will be a very practical message that can have a major impact on your life.
And lastly, this is Martin Luther King, Jr. weekend! We get to celebrate a holiday based on the life of a Baptist preacher who honored Jesus with his life by pursuing racial reconciliation, justice, and a life of faith. He said, “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” Let’s celebrate the power of God’s light and love this Sunday!!
In his Christmas address a few weeks ago, Pope Francis starkly stated, “We are not in Christianity, not anymore.” He was speaking, not of the church, but of society. A number of polls and social observers have indicated the rapid decline of Christianity in America. Megachurch pastor and author James White wrote, “For the first time in human history, we now live in a post-Christian world.” This is unnecessarily bleak in outlook, because in fact Christianity is growing in Asia and Africa like never before. But his point remains largely true in America.
What is our response?
Well, the early church grew in an environment indifferent to or hostile towards Christianity, and the apostle Paul had this attitude: For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes… (Romans 1:16).

I commend his response to you. Let us worship God with boldness, show our allegiance to the Lord of all by making worship a priority in our lives, and focus on living the Christian life of grace and truth. This is our mission at Crosswalk:
We are a community passionately demonstrating the love of Jesus by
     pursuing truth,
     choosing sacrifice,
     serving all people,
     and making disciples.
May the Lord bless our efforts in 2020!
Love in the Lord,
Pastor John
