Walking with God’s Messengers in the Philippines

This Sunday evening Rosemary Sellen, Pastor Michael Aboganda and myself will fly to the Philippines and continue our call to missions on the island of Samar. Pastor Michael returns to continue his evangelical mission work with children, youth, and crusades. Last Sunday we heard about his ongoing dreams leading him to preach the gospel to people on nearby islands who can only be reached by boat. We keep his ministry in prayer fully expecting God to complete the work he has planted in his followers.

Rosemary and I return with a purpose to divide and conquer two new projects. In July, after sharing Doorway to Hope’s latest updates, we received offerings that now make it possible for us to explore the purchase of our own property. Our desire is to build a large enough multi-purpose building to hold church services, children/youth bible classes, feeding programs, adult bible studies, healthcare clinics, and more! We have outgrown our current rental compound, and ask for your prayers for wisdom in next steps. Pastor Lito Ostria is our Director on site leading the church and outreach ministries. His gift of leadership has been a major influence in raising up youth and adult leaders equipped to share the gospel.

A little over a month ago, Cornerstone School of Ministry was authorized to open as a non-profit religious school, offering 2 year and 4 year Bible and Theology degrees. Our main objective is “equipping Christian leaders one class at a time”, using a modular style class setting where students complete one class a month, working independently and coming together two times a month in a classroom setting. Pastor Mark Selgas, one of our partners in the Philippines for over 10 years, will act as school administrator. Mark brings years of Christian education experience, and is a graduate of the International School curriculum we are using. The school will meet in town proper Calbayog with students traveling for up to one hour from surrounding areas. We are blessed to have the Mayor’s backing, and will rent a room in the local Girl Scout building. We covet your prayers for our orientation/information meeting on Wednesday, August 31 at 10:00am (that would be Tuesday night, August 30 at 7:00pm, Sunnyvale time).

For “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”  But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him?

And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?  And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is why the Scriptures say, “How beautiful are the feet of messengers who bring good news!”   Romans 10:13-15 (NLT)

This Sunday we welcome Dr. Tim Brown, Executive Minister of Growing Healthy Churches, bringing a message on “The Power of Forgiveness.”

See you Sunday morning for another day of fellowship,
Pastor Linda
