Happy Summer! We have approximately twelve weeks of summer in front of us where we look forward to slowing down and taking a break from all of the commitments we have piled on ourselves over the past nine months. Summer is our time to breathe a little deeper, take in some outdoor activities, and maybe even take some time off. We tell ourselves we will never let things get so out of control again, and make promises to live a more simplified life in the future.
Sound familiar? Look over these words I read this past week in an online blog
Imagine getting to heaven and God saying:
Before I laid the foundations of the earth, I thought of you and of the days you would live on earth. I planned out the people and the places I would give you. I laid out your neighbors and your workplace, the places you would attend school, and your family. I laid out enough days to do all the good works that I purposed for you, and I equipped you with all you would need to accomplish those purposes here. I filled you with my Spirit to encourage and remind you and lead you. I gave you my Word so you would know me and know what to do. I gave you people to run with and people who needed me.
Let’s talk about how all that went.
I’ve played guitar all my life. I grew up playing and singing in church, and was always involved in some type of worship leading. Here’s a photo from my college days when I was part of a girl band (I’m second from the left). We went by the name Horizon. I’m not sure why, but over the past few years, I find myself rarely picking up my guitar. There always seems to be something more important distracting me. One of my summer goals is to make time again for this God given gift and to bring some worship back into my life. Feel free to hold me accountable!
This summer is a great opportunity to reboot. Make a fresh start. Clean out what doesn’t make sense. Reconnect with what brings you joy. Live life with people.
Meditate on these words from Isaiah 43:18-19
18 But forget all that—
it is nothing compared to what I am going to do.
19 For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland.
There are a lot of exciting things happening at Crosswalk over the summer. We have a line-up of speakers and missionaries sharing in our services, monthly Sunday afternoon BBQ’s with something for everybody, Family camp, small group connections, and service opportunities in abundance.
God is so good, and He has given us everything we need to sift out the dry wasteland
