Seeking the End of Slavery

Seeking the End of Slavery

This Sunday, we will be one of many churches that have joined to fight against slavery in all aspects. We as a church in mission, have partnered with many missionaries and organizations that spread the Gospel, that invest in Biblical teachings towards the next generation and, that are involved within the call of God through social justice.

Evil men do not understand justice, but those who seek the Lord understand it fully. Proverbs 28:5 NIV

We live in a world full of evil; but we seek the Lord. We live in a world that has always had too much racial tension; but we seek the Lord. We live in a world that hates and murders; but we seek the Lord. We live in a world that uses other humans as their ways of gain, through harsh labor, through abuse, through sex, due to greed; but we seek the Lord.

As believers in Christ, our mission while alive in these bodies is not to separate the wicked from the righteous. It is not our role to say who is in and who is out. We are not called to judge the saved and the unsaved. We seek the Lord; and because of that, we should understand justice and do our part in bringing injustice, to an end.

IJM defines slavery by the following; Slavery is the use of lies or violence to force another person to work for little or no pay and today, there are over 45 million people are being held captive as slaves today. Gary Haugen, CEO for IJM says the following powerful words; “Modern-day slavery is as brutal as ever; more vast than ever, but more stoppable than ever.” It is more stoppable than ever, because those who seek the Lord are coming together to fight against this injustice!

September 25, many churches came together for an event called, ‘Freedom Sunday.’ Our Freedom Sunday is happening this coming Sunday. We are privileged to have Jocelyn White, Director of Church Mobilization in the West for IJM here to deliver a message that will look at Gods heart for justice and victims of oppression. She will have a table set up between services if you would like to find out more about her and the mission of IJM. Following the services, we will have a luncheon followed by a workshop in which Jocelyn will share more about the work and ways you can become more involved.

So come ready to hear how the Lord is working through IJM across the world and see how the Lord desires you to partner with them.

If you want to find out more, here is a video made by IJM about slavery today.
