Don’t Look Back – You’re Not Going That Way

Earlier this month my husband Harold and I took a road trip for his birthday to Southern California. I am a BIG fan of home designers Chip & Joanna Gaines from the HGTV network, and while in the San Luis Obispo area, we stopped at a store where they display items from Joanna’s home collection. One of her wall hangings that caught my eye was “DON’T LOOK BACK – YOU ARE NOT GOING THAT WAY.” I immediately felt the significance of the words. Enough that I wrote them in my phone on my memo pad. I connect with these words. I don’t want to be so absorbed in remembering the past that I forget the potential of the future.

This past Sunday Pastor Ed Taylor shared from 2 Samuel 6 with a message titled “Dancing Between Hope and History.” (I believe God is trying to impose something on my heart). In this scripture we find David dancing before the Lord with all his might, grateful for the new future the Lord is leading Israel into. At the same time, Saul’s daughter Michal, is watching King David and despising him in her heart for taking away her past life. David is looking forward while Michal is looking back.

For believers, our hope is based on the expectation that God will meet us where we are to show us a better future in spite of our present circumstances. I appreciated Pastor Ed directing us to thank God now for the blessings that are on their way. Have faith and hope that the blessings are in sight, and when they do come, be thankful and dance before the Lord with all your might!

This is the day which the Lord has made;
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.  Psalm 118:24

Our last Wednesday Connection Dinner & Children’s program is tonight. A big thanks to Chef Andrew Hillebrand for his faithfulness to provide so many of us with dinner each week for the past five months. While some groups may take some breaks over the summer, it’s a great time to connect with a life group. Let me know if you want help finding a summer group or you can look at a list of Crosswalk groups here.

Leaning forward into the summer,
